Warning 25301. IIS configuration failed (131073). You will have to configure the VMWare site manually.
What !?! (Isn't that what the installer is for?). So I pieced some information together from a couple of googlings and here is what worked at the end of the day:
- Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Internet Information Services
- Expand the websites until you get to the VMWare Management Interface.
- Right-click on the website and select Stop.
- Leave IIS open. You will come back to it later.
- Double-click on the VMWare server installation executable. Use the executable - not what is in the Add/Remove control panel.
- Click Next on the welcome dialog.
- Select MODIFY for the option and click NEXT.
- Click on the VMWare Management Interface and select " ..not installed....."
- Click Next and Finish.
- Run the VMWare Server executable installer again.
- Select MODIFY for the option and click NEXT.
- Click on the VMWare Management Interface and select "..installed.."
- Click Install
- Click Finish.
- Go back to IIS and see if it is running. If not, right-click and select Start.

Thanks for the post. Helped me out a lot. You would think that VMware would have fixed their installer.
I've got a blog similar to yours, although clearly you've got a lot more going on. My biggest hit is repairing a Samsung 204b monitor.
