Change Disk Size in VMWare

2:04 PM
To change the "size" of a virtual drive after-the-fact use the vmware-diskmanager executable. The VMWare Server and VMWare Workstation GUI's do not provide this ability (but they should!)

PreRequisites
- The VM Cannot have any snapshots
- vmware-vdiskmanager.exe (available from SDK, Server install, etc.)

Procedure (upsize to 40 GB)
  1. Verify that you have the tool (installed automatically) under C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Server\vmware-vdiskmanager.exe
  2. Open a command prompt and CD to C:\Program Files\VMware\VMware Server\
  3. At the command prompt type:
    vmware-vdiskmanager.exe" -x 40GB "D:\VMImage\Clone\000001-cl1.vmdk"
