Toolbars / Add-Ons
Each time you add an add-on such as a toolbar or other feature integrated into Internet Explorer you open up a whole host of potential issues. Most "toolbars" include a pop-up blocker. Some of the include anti-phising checking features. Others just track everything you do and report them to a server somewhere.
Think of it this way - each toolbar is a program running on your computer and can do whatever it needs to. Including sucking up Processor resources, scanning your files, etc. So - be careful. If it is free - it will likely cost you later.
PAY ATTENTION to when you are installing software. More and more software, even from credible sources, includes a Google, MSN, or other toolbar automatically. Before clicking Next or Install - uncheck the toolbar option if available (unless you want it).
Multiple Pop-Up Blockers
Most people don't realize that Internet Explorer versions have a built in pop-up blocker. Adding the Google or Yahoo or other software often times adds a pop-up blocker. This complicates things especially if you want to enable pop-ups for a site. I personally only use the Internet Explorer pop-up blocker.
Multiple Anti-Phising
The feature to protect you from going to a malicious site accidentally is nice. But it is built into Internet Explorer. I personally turn this off to make surfing faster (because the filter does not have to lookup the website address before letting me access it). But, I have good anti-virus anti-spyware software (otherwise you could potentially get a virus or spyware).
Spyware / Adware
Surfing the web is not safe. It just plain isn't. You better make sure you have some good anti-spyware/anti-adware software. And keep it up to date.
