Wireless Presentations - Get Up And Running Fast!

7:32 PM
There are numerous ways to perform wireless presentations - but which ones are easiest?  What technology do you need?  The older your equipment the more likely you will run into obstacles.  So the answer depends on what you have and what you want to buy.

Prerequisites
  • Projector with HDMI port, or
  • TV with HDMI port
  • A device for presenting (see below)

Apple TV
If you own an iPhone 4s+ , iPad 2+, or Mac you can do presentations using Apple TV and
"mirroring" directly from your device.  Whatever app or what you see on the device...is transferred.  Quality will depend on the size of the screen.
  • About $90-100.
  • Uses an HDMI cable and any existing wireless network.
  • The wireless network could be a hotspot on your phone or office/home.
Chromecast
You could also use Chromecast.  Chromecast can be installed on any PC or iOS device.  It uses the Chrome browser.  So - if you can see it in the browser - you can see it on the screen with Chromecast. It is not dependent on the screen size of your device - but rather Chromecast and your TV.  Yet you can still control the presentation.
  • About $35
  • Uses an HDMI cable and any existing wireless network.  (Dongle connects directly into projector or TV)
  • The wireless network could be a hotspot on your phone or office/home.
  • Works with PC, iOS, Android, Mac

Web-Based Presentations
You can convert your presentations to PDF's and present that way.  However, a better method is to use Prezi or SlideShare.  They have multiple plans including the free edition.  The animation is easy to use, it is easy to import existing presentations, and you can have public and private presentations.
