This is a good piece of machinery. Out of the box the HP MediaSmart EX485 Home Server, which runs Microsoft Home Server, is easy-to-use and easy-to-setup. Within 30 minutes I was up and running with all the computers connected. Once more...the backups were done automagically.BestBuy was selling it for $549.99 on sale, while Fry's Electronics was selling it for $499.99. Well - BestBuy stepped up to the plate and matched the price. Check it out at HP.
The quick and dirty:
- 500GB, with 3 empty SATA bays
- 4GB Ram
- 10/100/1000 built-in ethernet
- eSata/Usb connections
- automatic backups without any configuring needed
- power save features
- remote access to ANY computer on your network
- web interface for getting to pictures, music, videos
- and more!
I set up a tzo.com account with my own url for a dynamic address to point to the server. Now I can share my own albums with anyone I want! I had a spare SATA drive, dropped it in, added it through the console, and voila! 1.5 TB of space.
