Windows Vista Tips And Tricks - Defrag

10:08 PM

Although I like some of the advancements in Windows Vista I found finding some things to be cumbersome. Here is some information about defragging.

Vista automatically rungs defrag for you. However, if you want to kick it off then you can do it through one of two ways.

Defrag Method #1.

  • Go to the start menu and type Defrag.
  • Click Continue.
  • Click Defragment Now.

Defrag Method #2.

  • Open a command prompt as Adminstrator by going to START > ALL PROGRAMS > ACCESSORIES.
  • Instead of left-clicking, right-click on Command Prompt and select Run As Administrator.
  • Click Continue when prompted.
  • See Defrag Percentage:
At the command prompt type defrag c: -a and hit enter.

  • Just Perform a Command Line Defrag:
At the command prompt type defrag c: -w and hit enter.
