Office Communicator 2007 - Cannot Create New Group

The simple solution to this problem is that you cannot access the Tools > Create New Group option in Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 because it is grayed out. This is because the option is only available if your "view" is "Contact List". A limitation of the tool - no doubt.

You also cannot see any custom groups in Microsoft Office Communicator 2007 unless you are in the "Contact List" view.

To change your view do the following:
  1. Click on the dropdown arrow in the upper-left corner of Office Communicator 2007 to expose the menu.
  2. Select View.
  3. Click on Contacts List.
  4. You can now go to the menu Tools > Create New Group.
